now that you know how to make brazilian cheese bread, i want to show you a different kind of bread. the monolithic sugarloaf mountain, or the prettier portuguese name, pão do açúcar. named because of it’s wonderful appearance. i think dr.suess must have visited here, at least in his daydreams. after seeing the cristo redentor up close and personal, we were curious to experience the sight from the other side.

and how incredible this side is. the stretch of sky, sea, beaches, city and jungle all create this surreal landscape called rio. doesn’t it look surreal? i was just tickled seeing a city like this resemble a train set, blame it on my lifelong penchant for miniatures.

we came in a glass paneled cable car (built in 1912) to a neighboring loaf and then up up up to 1,299 ft above sea level to sugarloaf just as the sun was setting. good timing, that sun. and there it was, the proclaimed new seven world wonder, and the enormous open arms who so kindly seemed to invite me to rio on a whim, just before that brazilian visa was to expire. it’s golden, that sun.

these photos, jenny. crazy. i hope that if you ever decide to settle in one place for a little while, you make a wall display of these photos and then invite me over so i can sit in front of it and drool. :) big grin. take it easy! mxx
Here’s a little video of the way up to Corcovado and the view from the top. This comment should probably go in the post on the Cristo Redentor statue but since you can see Pan de Azucar from there, I’ll put it here :)

I had a friend who lived in Buenos Aires for 2 years and I always meant to visit. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t.
It’s on the list of places to visit in the next five years so I’m sure I’ll make it. But, goodness don’t I wish I could go now!
That is soooo COOL!! I love max’s buzzed head :)
buzzed hair does make him look a million times bigger to us. :) and i love that idea of some of you coming over…you know you are always invited. <3
