bought a new necklace. it has form AND function, too. the fun part: using the acrylic circles like monocles when i need to see things in a rose colored, lime colored, mustard colored, or navy colored way. or multi-colored

drawing via lapsura.

hehe. okay, other things i’m loving these days:

+ pale lilac nailpolish (trust me, so pretty!)
+ tiny bouquets of fresh flowers scattered through our apartment.
+ cheesecake ice cream from freddo‘s, because now i know what heaven tastes like.
+ anything hello kitty.
+ cloudwatching.
+ expired polaroid film, i’ve been shooting nearly everyday and the stack is HUGE.
+ wandering. this morning i went a solid three hours walking through BA, no stops.
+ max’s freckles!
+ seeing happy customers, oh yeah!
+ bishop allen, click (seriously, how do they know what i do with my camera?)

This probably is a really dumb question.. but you speak fluent Spanish? Did you grow up speaking it or did you learn it in order to travel more smoothly? Just wondering.

  10. jenny says:

hi kerilyn, thanks for the question – i don’t think it’s dumb at all!

my husband is totally fluent – so the first few weeks here weren’t like walking blindfolded.

i’m not confident enough to admit that i am 100% fluent with spanish, since talking is the last to fall into place for me. i can totally get around and be out in the city with no inhibitions, but i’m not having deep philosophical conversations yet! :0)

i can understand pretty much everything too, which is fun. buenos aires being a much more metropolitian area than montevideo (uruguay) has people from all over south america – so unless you are peruvian, i can understand you, :)

i took one pathetic and pointless class in high school, and i vaguely remember a spanish 2 class in there… i think… but most of that time i was too interested in the cute boy who sat next to me than learning how to say what time it was in spanish, ha- we didn’t have the class frequently enough to retain any useful information (i think you need to be with it everyday to really *Get it*) i asn’t motivated enough. i knew about three words when we moved down here and so anything i knew has just been absorbed by living. no formal class or study. so i’ve learned the same way my son has, and by necessity. it’s been fun!

I love the colours in that necklace. It’s almost like you’ve got a set of filters for your camera hanging around your neck! And I hope we get to see the Polaroids you took!:)
