Harshness vanished. A sudden softness
has replaced the meadows’ wintry grey.
Little rivulets of water changed
their singing accents. Tendernesses,
hesitantly, reach toward the earth
from space, and country lanes are showing
these unexpected subtle risings
that find expression in the empty trees.
- Rainer Maria Rilke
Seattle is boasting signs of spring already, and I can feel my spirit lighten to a whole new spectrum with such bright days. My garden plans are beginning to bloom. Garden necklaces too. If I can make just one person happy with these, like when Kat was happy enough to take a polaroid of her necklace, well… then I go to bed happy!
You’ve been asking a lot of interesting questions at formspring and I’ve added a link on my sidebar—-> if you want to ask me any more. I look forward to those moments in the day when I can get to answering them. I like that it feels like a little ongoing interview. Not that I’m famous. But I think everyone is interesting enough for an interview, don’t you?
So now its my turn: If you had one wish this spring, what would it be?
Coming off of Valentine’s Day, of course I’m still seeing hearts everywhere. Walks are brilliant for scavenger hunts. We often pass this lock on the Burke-Gilman trail, with a heart on it. And yesterday, I squealed and stopped my jog still when I saw this little red heart hedge at Green lake.
My boys and I, we love taking long walks. Seattle is called the Emerald city for how green it is all year round, but you could just as easily call it the topaz, sapphire or lapis city. I often find myself drawn to the all those blues and I love being surrounded by water and sky that defines our city. Waking up to the sound of boat horns, seeing the birds soar in the sky and understanding what it means when “the mountainis out,” I feel so lucky to be a Seattleite. I need my long walks because they are so essential for clearing my head. As I’m out moving my body, I know my mind is working quietly in the background while I’m distracted by all the beauty created for you and me.
I’ve got stacks and stacks of artwork and jewelry to share/add to my shop, but I’ve been really slow at posting them. (With good reason though: I’m spending most of my time making them!) This pretty gold vermeil and sterling silver necklace is new. I’m also bringing back a favorite print.
Has anyone else been browsing through the new fall collections? I’ve got a lot of favorites so far, but it’s hard to concentrate on while packing for our spring getaway that involves summery clothes…
One of my favorite places to mine for jewelry is the Fremont Vintage Mall. I have to admit that I usually run out of time to look at much else there because I spend so much of it pointing out things to look at behind the glass cabinets! Last week I was there (again) and picked up three very beautiful rhinestone necklaces, all ranging between 12.00-18.00 dollars each. What a steal. They are in perfect condition and have the most wonderful geometric shapes to them.
I rushed home and excitedly arranged them to be worn together all at once as a single necklace, but in an adjustable way: sometimes varying the lengths, or hanging the pendant designs asymmetrically, or all lined up. I actually think it needs a few more layers worn with it – call me crazy but the thicker the layering gets, the more casual it looks to me. Now, don’t hold me to that as a hard and fast rule of jewelry, it definitely depends on the rest of the look and what other types of accessories are being worn, etc. But for this set I think it will be all about versatility and purposefully wearing it on non-occasions. I’ll probably end up mixing them with some chains too, I’m excited about the possibilities.
They are quite sparkly, which I love for any old day with no special occasion planned. I don’t believe in saving everything pretty for some occasion Someday. Because Someday never comes!
Thanks to everyone who participated in this necklace giveaway… I loved reading all of the sweet stories and comments you left!

To photograph is to hold one’s breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It’s at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy. ~Henri Cartier-Bresson

While waiting for the big news, I thought I would share some art related news. My jewelry recently accompanied the work of talented fashion designer Jennifer Evans, going down the runway at the London AIU 2009 Fashion Show in May. I’m so honored to have been a part of the show! And as you can see, her collection is absolutely breathtaking…
Delicate yet dynamic… I made a new batch of these earrings today, so there are a few in stock for the first few takers, then they will be made to order (which only adds about a week to regular delivery time, depending on where you live.) Perfect for everyday wear & showing off that neck for summertime, they are made of gold vermeil stars from a 14K gold fill ear threads and a super fine chain. I’ve already worn my own pair all last weekend and I can sense that these will be my signature set for the season! Get yours here.
Here’s a new series of necklaces I’ve been working on: Timeless Necklaces. Using clock faces that have been collected from antique or vintage watches, stripped of their mechanisms, hammered and smoothed to hang on artfully draped delicate blackened chains, these are like little artifacts. I love that they look a little bit industrial up close from their age and hardware, and yet they look very dainty against the neck and because of their components, they are so unique. I’ve even saved one for myself! (I made a promise that I would be better at not selling ALL of my work. Especially since lately, I get asked all the time about the pieces I wear and if I made them… and often times the answer is something like, Well, no, I bought this in Argentina… or Actually, this particular ring I picked up from a flea market…etc.) Pictures:
Each of the necklaces come in a special gift box, you can purchase them right here. ***Don’t forget: this is the last day for free shipping on everything else listed at supermarket!***
