“In order to control myself I must first accept myself by going with and not against my nature.”
This series of work is about resilience. Inspired by a metaphor invented by Bruce Lee, by becoming like water, we can navigate well-being even under crisis. Water is formless, shapeless. It does not fight, but instead changes movement and speed as it desires. It is strong, free and yielding. Rigidity, stress, and attempts to manipulate outcomes in life cannot exist within this metaphysical philosophy. The more we learn to surrender our resistance, the greater our propensity for facing challenges with ease. In these paintings, I arrange forms in the midst of breaking free from tension and trauma, and create a witness to the release that comes from this adaptability.
